Project titled „Adapted Physical Activity – theory and practice”
(No: FSS/2013/IIC/W/0020/U/0003) is financially supported by the Foundation for Development of the Education System – Programme Operator for the Scholarship and Training Fund under the Inter-Institutional Cooperation action.
Adapted Physical Activity (APA) is academic discipline still under the development in the European countries. APA is aiming towards the improvement in quality of life and independence of individuals with special needs. The number of wheelchair users is high and still increasing. The project aims to contribute to social inclusion of wheelchair users in Poland and Iceland by providing training for professionals who will be responsible for it in the areas of physical activities. Project will be run from February 2014 to December 2015 by Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw (AWF Warsaw) and University of Iceland (UI). The outcomes of the project are: trained students of physiotherapy and physical education, mobility, adaptation of Polish and Icelandic version of International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ) for wheelchair users, project website, conference book of abstracts, translation of Wheelchair Skills Test (WST) Manual into Polish and Icelandic, and CD-Rom with project results. Project effects will be achieved through workshops/mobility for students, study visits for teachers and conference. The project will improve the quality of education at Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw and University of Iceland in Reykjavík, and greater social inclusion of persons with special needs. In all the project activities both institutions will support each other.
